Select Comfort Files Patent Infringement Complaint Against Simmons and Price Manufacturing.

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 30, 1999--

Select Comfort Corporation (Nasdaq: AIRB) announced that it has filed a patent infringement complaint against Simmons Company and Price Manufacturing Inc. in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis. Select Comfort, headquartered in Minneapolis, manufactures air beds with adjustable firmness.

The complaint asserts that Simmons, an innerspring mattress company headquartered in Atlanta, is infringing on three Select Comfort patents by selling Simmons-branded air beds with a hand-held remote control to adjust the firmness of the bed. The complaint also asserts that Price, a Canadian manufacturer, is infringing the patents by manufacturing the beds for Simmons. The complaint pertains to three Select Comfort patents that generally relate to a system for controlling the firmness of an air bed and, more specifically to a system that relies on a hand-held control.

The patents are: U.S. Patent No. 5,509,154, issued April 23, 1996; U.S. Patent No. 5,562,484, issued July 29, 1997; and U.S. Patent No. 5,903,941,issued May 18,1999. Select Comfort seeks a court order enjoining Simmons from infringing these patents, and awards of damages and costs.

Founded in 1987, Select Comfort Corporation is the leader in air bed technology, holding 24 U.S. issued or pending patents for its products. The company designs, manufactures and markets a line of air beds with adjustable firmness, as well as foundations and sleep accessories.
