Fed: Govt frees up literacy spending controls at a price

CANBERRA, Feb 22 AAP - Schools which prove they are achieving literacy and numeracy
results will have greater freedom in how they spend Commonwealth funds under a new $1.4
billion strategy.

The package allows states and schools more flexibility in how they spend the money
but demands, in return, that proof is given of improving literacy and numeracy standards
among schoolchildren.
