Vic: Pedestrian killed in Melbourne's outer east

MELBOURNE, Dec 20 AAP - A truck driver has died after being struck by a passing car
as he inspected his broken-down vehicle in Melbourne's outer east.

Police said the man's truck broke down at the intersection of Bayswater and Ronald
roads in Croydon about 5.40am.

It was believed the man, aged in his 30s, got out to inspect his vehicle and was hit
by the passing car.

He died about three hours later.

Yesterday, a woman died after she was hit by a car while pulled over in the emergency
services lane near Melbourne airport.

The truck driver's death brings Victoria's road toll to 440, 40 more than for the same
time last year.
