Vic: Kroger urged to become state Liberal president: report
MELBOURNE, Dec 8 AAP - Liberal heavyweight Michael Kroger is reportedly under pressureto become the party's Victorian president to help it rebuild in time for the federal electiondue in two years.
The Sunday Age said government Senate leader Richard Alston yesterday urged Mr Krogerto run for the post.
The paper said Mr Kroger has been approached in the past week by a number of seniorLiberals suggesting he return to a front-line role in the party.
He leaves the ABC board in February, removing what would have been an obstacle to hisreassuming an organisational position.
Mr Kroger was state Liberal president between 1987 and 1992.
He has been critical of the party's state branch since it was decimated in last week'selection, saying it needed sweeping changes "from top to bottom".
