WA: Dockers star Farmer denies assaulting girlfriend

AFL star JEFF FARMER has pleaded not guilty to a charge of assaulting his long-time girlfriend.

Fremantle Dockers forward FARMER, who's 26, was charged yesterday with common assault,
following an incident outside an Osborne Park furniture warehouse in Perth on Tuesday.

After entering his plea at the Perth Magistrates Court, FARMER was granted bail on
condition he not contact his estranged partner, who was named in court as CHARLENE CAROL
THORNE.

Police prosecutor STEVE WOOD asked the court to grant bail only on the condition that
FARMER not contact, or attempt to contact, the complainant.

FARMER's solicitor STEPHEN SCOTT said the couple, who have three children, are now separated.

The case will return to court on June the 22nd for a directions hearing.

A statement by Dockers' chief executive CAMERON SCHWAB yesterday said FARMER will train
with the team today and remain available for selection for the game against the Sydney
Swans in Sydney on Sunday.
